Who is proud of Ram Mandir?

On the 6th of August 2020, the Prime Minister of the world's largest democracy engineered the first step to demolish the very idea of secularism, one of the key pillars of the nation. He was actively supported and praised by his co-conspirators, who have a history blotted with records of creating and fuelling communal riots.

For knowing more about the significance of this act by the PM, we should go a couple of decades back, to the 6th of December, 1992. The day on which India witnessed an act which unbalanced the great plans and visions of the architects of the nation. A BJP led political rally ultimately turned into a riot, which destroyed the Babri masjid. The reason for this, as explained by the Sangh Parivar, was that the mosque was built on the birthplace of the Hindu God Ram.

Now let us discuss the reasons for which the decisions taken by the current Indian government are wrong on different levels.

The historical elements of the religious and geographical structure of India should be taken into account for this. During medieval times, India extended from today’s Afghanistan to Myanmar. But, can this fact be enough for claiming all of these lands as India’s own? Many Hindu temples in India today were constructed by Buddhists and Jains, have we given that back to them by checking the historical proofs? Many Christian churches in Kerala were built on former temple lands. This points out the selective use of historical and geographical records for the advantage of a particular group. One wonders what would be the state of the nation by the time the birthplaces of 33 million Hindu Gods are found.

How does the Ayodhya dispute become a challenge to secularism and to the vision with which the nation was built on?

Secularism in India means a state has to act neutrally in all affairs regarding religion. This idea was directly trumped by the Right winged fascist governments throughout the history of India and the same scenario repeated itself in the Ayodhya dispute too. Many senior leaders of the current ruling party (BJP) were torch bearers to the Babari Masjid destruction. But instead of renouncing the condemnable act, the BJP took steps to support it as a part of their agenda to be the face of the Hindu population of the country. And once they were comfortably in power, the government allocated staggering amounts to the whole Rama Kshetra project on the disputed land.

The talk about the ideals of BJP is essential to clarify their stance in the dispute. The BJP is a political organisation who have grown by inciting communal hatred and then feeding on it directly. The current ruling party of India have been involved in riots and destructions throughout the country, which has lead to the loss of around 3000 innocent lives. The same government filed a case in the supreme court to change the name of our nation, India to Hindustan. The RSS, the parent organisation of BJP, are known anti-nationals, who have conspired and assassinated Mahatma Gandhi. This government has always choosen more religious agendas over health, pandemic, flood, economic crisis, debts and humanity. That's enough to explain how far the idea of India has been displaced by the actions of our ruling system. The most distressing fact is that they not only support a single group of people but also try to suppress all the other ethnicities, especially the Muslims. Subramanian Swamy, a prominent leader of the BJP, even went to say that Muslims in India are not truly Indians and they do not need equal considerations. All these atrocious acts from extreme fascist minds of leaders are destroying the balance of the nation by cracking down the pillar of secularism.

The PM went on to make a ridiculous claim that all of India is proud of the construction of Ram Mandir. A simple question can thwart this atrocious claim of his.

Have the Indians ever really benefited from Ayodhya dispute? The answer is a clear NO.

The 1992 riots led by BJP and RSS caused 2000 deaths at least, majority of them being Muslims. As a result of this, Hindus and Hindu temples suffered seriously in Bangladesh and Pakistan. Riots spread to Mumbai, Surat, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and almost all the major cities of North India. There were many terror attacks on the country by the Muslim extremists, including the Mumbai Bombings of ‘93, which was blamed on the Babri Masjid attack. Many Indians lost their lives to Sangh Parivar’s communal hate spreading propaganda and its after-effects.

Religions were made for humans by humans. It is the freedom of a person to choose any ideology or religion. But they do not hold any right to suppress other people based on their different beliefs. What is important is to understand, pain and suffering is all the same for all humans. No God ever inspired people to build a temple in his birthplace, no God ever preached to bomb or destroy a worship place. No God in any religion ever gave a lesson above humanity. And thus, I and millions of other Indians will never be proud of the Ram temple. We do not support the construction of huge religious infrastructure when a major share of the Indian population still rot in extreme poverty.
